A Time-Honored Tradition
This past fall, Lori Weitzner traveled to Alabama to see the breathtaking quilts of the artists of Gee’s Bend. These quilts are colorful works of modern art created by women who have passed down these customs and techniques from one generation to the next. Lori was captivated by their imaginative use of color, shape, and texture, which produced beautiful electrifying abstract designs. To learn more about Lori’s experience at Gee’s Bend, check out her story in Veranda Magazine here!
The women of Gee’s Bend have been crafting their quilts, together, since the 19th century.

“Of the thousands of museum exhibits I have seen in my lifetime—from fine textiles to fine art, photography to fashion—I can think of none that have had a more profound impact on me than the quilts of Gee’s Bend.”
