The Contesseration Collection
Weitzner’s Spring 2017 collection, entitled Contesseration, pays homage to the surfaces and patinas of art forms, both ancient and current. It takes its name from the long-forgotten act of pledging friendship through the exchange of small square tablets known as tesserae: it’s an act that juxtaposes the hard and the soft, just as beautiful design often does.
This collection in particular finds inspiration from art’s hard surfaces and melds them with the soft hand of textiles. From the speckled glazes of ceramica to oil-paint chips of Old Master portraits, from the tesserae of mosaics to the sheen of metal sculpture, these elusive layers are captured in the colors, textures and patterns of Weitzner’s latest wallcoverings and textiles.
