The Designer

Lori Weitzner

LORI WEITZNER’S path to creativity has always been clearly marked. Childhood signposts included constant sketching and painting with frequent visits to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, family travels abroad and acceptance into the art program at Syracuse University, where her professor there redirected her efforts from fine arts to textiles. After graduating with a BFA in Textiles, the journey became more interesting. A job which left her yearning for more led to travels in Europe, which led to free-lance in Milan, eventually selling her designs to companies including Missoni. Travels to Zurich were met with the same success and a long-term contact with Schlossberg-a luxury bedding company.

Returning to New York, her creativity focused on packaging and product design, linking her name with Estee Lauder, Calvin Klein and Dansk. Her big break into the US textiles market came with a call from Jack Lenor Larsen, and with it the opportunity to independently design collections for him which bore her name. Her collaboration with Germany’s renowned Sahco from 2000 to 2012 garnered her designs broader recognition in the international interiors market. In 2004, Lori introduced Weitzner Limited offering innovative wallcoverings to a world-wide market. Then in 2011, she joined forces with Pollack, an American- known textile company where the Weitzner brand was able to expand through which she maintains her commitment to creating exceptional design that is in line with the human spirit.

Weitzner’s fabrics and wallcoverings grace celebrity homes such as those of Julianne Moore, Beyonce and Will Ferrell, and are often used for costumes and sets for motion picture films including “Gangs of New York” and “Mission Impossible.” Her designs also enhance numerous public spaces - most notably the glamorous Four Seasons Hotels and headquarters of Google in New York. Her work is housed in the permanent collections of museums such as Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Montreal, Victoria and Albert in London, and the CooperHewitt in New York City. She is the recipient of multiple design awards, including a nomination for the Chrysler Innovation award, and travels the globe lecturing on engaging the senses in design.

Additionally, Lori is a celebrated author. A People Magazine “Pick,” ODE TO COLOR: The Ten Essential Palettes of Living and Design (Harper Design), Weitzner shares her unique perspective on the uses and significance of color in design. Immersing readers into ten “color worlds,” this design visionary combines essays, literary quotations, and dazzling visual images as she explores the power that color holds over our tastes, decisions, and moods. As a complement to the book, Lori has developed the ODE TO COLOR Analysis, which guides you to the color world that will best suit your home, enhancing the way you live.
